In terms of assessment, the teachers are using the strategy called “speaking test” and “dictation" to gauge the students' improvement in English Class. In the said assessment, the students are given questions by the teacher using English language which determines grammar and vocabulary progress of the students.

In addition, Khon Kaen University Demonstration Elementary School teachers at Suksasart are using positive reinforcement to motivate and encourage the students to further boost their performance. Also, Khon Kaen University is ensuring that every  student is recognized for every achievement in each discipline. The school Director congratulates and presents Certificate of Recognition to the achievers during the morning assembly for their exemplary performance. This approach boosts the student's morale which makes them highly motivated and are encouraged to perform better and excel on their school performance.

Furthermore, Khon Kaen University Demonstration Elementary School teachers at Suksasart are using various activities and programs which promote and enhance student’s creativity and innovativeness. These activities and programs are set to nurture and prepare the student to be future ready.

TEACHING PLAN

While at Khon Kaen University I experienced teaching English subjects to Grade 5 students. During my short stay, I applied different strategies and approaches in managing the class and ensuring that the students will have meaningful experiences while learning . With this experience, I acquired new knowledge on how to further become an effective and efficient educator  in the future. Teaching a diverse classroom is a great help for me as a future educator. I am delighted to be given a chance to share what I know and learn new strategies that will surely help in my future goals.

TEACHING PRACTICE

Teaching in a diverse classroom is a challenge for a pre-service teacher like me as there are many challenges that may arise. However, during my teaching practice at the Khon Kaen University, the only challenge for me was the language barrier due to the reason some of my students can’t understand and can’t speak in English.

During my stay at the Demonstration School of Khon Kaen University in the Primary Level at Suksasart, I had the opportunity to teach and learn simultaneously from Unit E class or the Grade 5 students. At first, I was nervous since everything was new to me, especially the environment. But with the guidance of my supervisor, Teacher Bird, who supports and helps me during my short but memorable stay at Khon Kaen University, everything went smoothly. Furthermore,  the teachers of Khon Kaen University were welcoming and approachable which really helps me to adapt easily. The students also helped me during my teaching practice, they are actively participating in the given activity with eagerness to learn.

In terms of classroom management, during my teaching practice, I applied approaches and strategies like building relationships with my students, building excitement in the classroom using games and songs, creating a safe space, and employing positive reinforcement. These strategies helped me to be able to manage and control the class especially in every activity and catching the students attention

SUMMARY

In conclusion, my overall experience as a SEA teacher participant at Khon Kaen University was meaningful, fun and amazing. I had the chance to understand Thai culture, hear the unique Thai language, enjoy the beautiful environment, savor tasty foods, socialize and learn from the students, teachers, and my fellow SEA teacher participants.

I was given the opportunity to experience wearing the ever charming and modest Thai dress. I am always grateful for this priceless one in a lifetime experience, one that I will always cherish and be proud  of.

In addition, the purpose of the practicum meets my needs as a future educator for I gained a lot of knowledge through these experiences. I learned new approaches and latest strategies that a teacher can employ in teaching the students to make the class interactive and fun.

Khon Kaen University teachers were approachable and are always guiding me, helping me to easily adapt in the new environment. Additionally, the dear students were pleasant and respectful to everyone. The students always approach me with their sweetest smile, delightful greetings and even give a heartwarming hug. Those memories will always be dear to me and I will always remember that Khon Kaen University is a safe and friendly environment everyone can enjoy.

Who doesn't love challenges? The only challenge I encountered as an intern at Khon Kaen University is the language barrier. Due to the difference in culture, some of my students can’t understand and speak English. But using language is not the only way to communicate. Therefore, by applying some strategies I am able to proudly say that the transfer of knowledge from me to my dear students is done successfully. Differences between cultures is not a problem nor a hindrance. Understanding one's culture is close to understanding one's self.
